“Many Mornings Curse the Evenings” is the newest release from a band I just found out about, Old Victrola from Baltimore, MD. Keeping up with the run of amazing, and different music coming from that area, they do not disappoint. Indie rock in the vein of Silversun Pickups and in particular an older local band called The Tide. I had seen in a posting online someone had shared about their latest release and decided to take a listen. What stood out to me first off was the vocals; they just seemed to fit so well the mood and timbre of the music, which in itself is warming and chill. In particular nothing jumped out at me as good or bad, which to me I think that is why I can listen to is so easily. I don’t know if they wrote that way on purpose, to make it easily palatable, but that’s how it’s coming off. It’s something I think I could just put on during a long drive, or at night or something.
Old Victrola with their new release “Many Mornings Curse the Evenings” is just so beautifully refreshing to the ears; it’s no nonsense, and pure what I think is originality in the sea of cookie cutter bands is just what we all needed to come out. I gush a lot but I suppose I never get through albums I just don’t like, and I love this album.
