Crow Bait’s latest “Sliding Through the Halls of Fate” release is a mix of different themes and genres that for the most part, fit pretty well. For instance, I really, really love the song “83” it’s like Springsteen meets Bear vs. Shark. The slide guitar is wonderful in the intro too, just sets the tone of the song right off the bat. Now, in my opinion I was hoping that tone, that punk-mix-folk rock thing would stick, and I guess for the most part it does. Most of the songs carry a mid tempo feel, but to me, none of them are as lasting in the mind as 83, it’s just so diverse. I think that “Sliding Through the Halls of Fate” for Crow Bait is a transition album, and I feel that form listening to their past releases. I feel like this is a wonderful direction and that 83 is a testament to their writing and playing ability. Just to me the rest didn’t leave me as full, nothing wrong with that, I’m not a critic, just opinionated and I’m not putting them down. I still think for those of you into bands like Bear vs. Shark, Hot Water Music, and that stuff, you’ll probably dig it.
